How to run Multiple GTalk messengers at the same time?

You may wish to be online with your multiple GTalk accounts. That means you need to run multiple instances of GTalk at the same time. But how do you do that? Follow the following simple steps:

  1. Locate you GTalk shortcut. You should be able to find it in your desktop itself. If you deleted it go to Program Files, locate the googletalk.exe inside the Google folder, right click it and Send to Desktop.
  2. Right click the shortcut icon and locate the ‘Target’ input box.
  3. At the end of the input box type /nomutex
    (example: “C:\Program Files\Google\Google Talk\googletalk.exe” /nomutex)

Now create as many instances of GTalk as you wish to :D !

Twitter Bar is a Firefox extension that allows you to twit from your Firefox address bar. That means you need not open any webpages or any apps to post to Twitter! Sounds strange?? Here’s how it works ..

Simply type what you want to twit in the address bar. You will also be able to se the number of characters left (as in Twitter) in the address bar itself. Once done click on the ‘+’ sign. (A confirmtion box will appear but you may uncheck the check box so that it doesn’t appear again) That’s it! Long URLs are now shortened by http://is.gd/ before being sent to Twitter.

WebTips No More Restricted To Tech Topics Only!

Not just tech anymore ..

Finally I decided to quit bachelors club. The day was 27th February, 2009 when I tied the knot with my little angel Swarnali, whom I have dreamt of in my dreams, thought of in my subconscious mind and somehow missed for the last 30 years. She happens to be a decent writer, story teller and is somewhat blessed with a poetic mind. So if you feel WebTips is all about Tech Tips, time to rethink!

In the coming days you will be happy to see her contributions here itself.

So, a BIG hello to you Swarnali :) ! Lets not miss the chance and grab the opportunity to read your penning in the days to come.

If you also feel you can be a contributor to this weblog, write to me at rabanerjee@gmail.com.

While Logging Into Your Gmail Account Try This Trick …

Gmail

Say your ID is myemailid@gmail.com So while logging into your Gamil account you just need to type “myemailid” into the Username field and provide the valid Password associated with that account in the Password field…right??

Now instead of typing “myemailid” in the Username field, insert a dot (.) somewhere in between the letters (Say after the word ‘my’ which changes your Gmail ID to my.emailid@gmail.com), provide the valid Password associated with the login ID “myemailid” and click on the Sign In button. What did you get?

Yes Gmail lets you log in into your account although you mistyped the Username (my.emailid@gmail.com instead of myemailid@gmail.com).

Hence, to conclude, Gmail reserves the Username you used while Signing Up, ONLY for you and blocks any attempt to create Usernames using exactly the same string as in your actual Useername. So next time be very careful in choosing your Gmail Login Id.

NOTE: Don’t try this with Yahoo! mail. It wont work. Don’t know whether it will work with other free email service providers.

Yahoo Mail Error: Date Of Delivery showing 2038 as the year!

This is quite surprising! I opened my Yahoo mail and found all the new spam mails are showing date of delivery as 2038

Yahoo mail bug

Feedburner Wordpress Plugin: Easily Redirect Feed from your Domain to Feedburner

Burn Your Feed

So .. you have setup your own blog at your self-hosted WordPress site. You also may have setup your Feedburner url to publish your RSS feed. And finally you want to redirect the feed url which may look like http://www.example.com/feed or http://blog.example.com/feed to http://feeds.feedburner.com/MyFeed. To do that Google (who aquired Feedburner last your) recommend the FeedSmith Plugin:

For the best results using FeedBurner with your self-hosted WordPress site, we recommend the FeedBurner FeedSmith plugin (originally authored by the legendary Steve Smith). The plugin will detect all ways to access your feed (e.g. http://www.yoursite.com/feed/ or http://www.yoursite.com/wp-rss2.php, etc.), and redirect them to your FeedBurner feed so you can track every possible subscriber. It will forward for your main posts feed and optionally, your main comments feed as well.

Just download the Feedburner Feedsmith plugin and follow the steps as detailed in the document. Thats all! Now seat back and enjoy!!

Incase you want to host the feed in your own domain using Feedburner try MyBrand which lets you use your own domain name to host your feed instead of feeds.feedburner.com. Sounds interesting huh? Give it a try. Details available here.
