A recent research conducted by Epsilon has revealed some interesting facts and figures related to online communication. The research was conducted in April, 2009 on over 4000 consumer respondents in select countries in North America, Asia Pacific and Europe. Here are some of the inferences:
Email continues to be the primary mode of global online communication

Although social networks, text/SMS are gradually catching up as an online tool for communication, email is way ahead in terms of usage with 87% of the North Americans using it. In Europe and Asia Pacific the figures are 74% and 63% respectively.
North America’s inboxes are getting flooded with spam mails

On an average Americans receive 169 spammy emails a week which is quite high compared to the Europeans(71) and the Asians(61).
Asians are gradually adapting to social networking for online communication

Surprisingly the research revealed that Asians are steadily adapting to social networks for communicating(8%) compared to the Europeans(5%) and the North Americans(4%).
Asians use PDA/Smartphones more for emailing than the ROW

32% of the Asians use a PDA or a Smartphone for emailing purposes compared to the Europeans(7%) and the Americans(9%).
