Communicate, Collaborate, Share - 17 Reasons Why You Should Use Qnext for Instant Messaging

June 12, 2009 under Online Tools, Web 2.0

Most of us must be having multiple instant messaging contacts like GTalk, Yahoo, AIM, ICQ, etc. When required to be online in more than one of above accounts we have to use a seperate IM client for each which later becomes difficult to manage. And most importantly they cannot be used as a collaborative tool and hence not 2.0 ish.

Communicate, Collaborate, Share - 17 Reasons why you should use Qnext

Qnext is an advanced, easy-to-use P2P based software that lets you sign in to 7 IM accounts simultaneously! Most importantly it lets you communicate, collaborate and share digital content (music, images, files, foldes) too in real time.

BTW its FREE!

Here are some of the reasons why you should switch to Qnext instead of using your favorite instant messaging client:

  1. Simple and stupid setup and registration process
  2. Supports IM for iChat, GTalk, Yahoo!, AIM, ICQ, Jabber and MSN
  3. Adding an IM account is fast, easy and hassle free
  4. Includes all the functions your favorite IM gives
  5. Spell checker is available (disabled by default since in a chat client it will be hardly of any use)
  6. Audio and video conference facility available
  7. Nice animated skins (as in Yahoo) are available
  8. P2P Client. Hence sharing of files with one or more contacts is possible. One can create any of the following zones for sharing content -
      Music zone

    • Sharing of Windows Media Player and iTunes libraries possible
    • Zone webcast link to share the content on the web is also possible (like this link). One can invite a contact while sharing a file
    • Lets you attach a description for others to understand
    • Attaching tags let other users find the zone being shared
      Photo Zone

    • Lets you share image files with anyone
    • Basic editing like (rotate image, set thumbnail size, attach description and tags)
    • Zone webcast link to share the content on the web is also possible
    • Lets you attach a description for others to understand
    • Attaching tags let other users find the zone being shared
      File and Folder Zone

    • Through this zone sharing of any files/folders is possible
    • Zone webcast link to share the content on the web is also possible. One can invite a contact while sharing a file
    • Lets you attach a description for others to understand
    • Attaching tags let other users find the zone being shared
  9. As per Qnext when two Qnext users are sharing content, SSL encryption is used which makes collaboration most secured and of highest quality.
  10. Allows audio and video conference
  11. Allows you to play games like Checkers, Poker, Chess and two other games
  12. Remote access of PCs is possble. Is that possible/will be possible in any IM clients? I don’t think so. There are two types of permission that can be granted -
    • Full user control
    • View only permission
  13. Access can be of two types as well -
    • Full Desktop (Gives full rights to a contact to access a computer)
    • Application Specific (Gives application specific rights to a contact)
  14. Qnext for Apple iPhone & iTouch is available with limited functionality compared to its desktop version
  15. Updates available on a frequent basis which means the app gets better daya by day!
  16. Comprehensive help documentation available at http://help.qnext.com/
  17. IRC, Group text chat and importing of e-mail contacts has been removed and will be avaiable soon
  18. PC Magazine rightly said: “The Swiss Army Knife of Internet Communications Tools”

Download and try Qnext now (Windows/Linux/Mac)!

Is this better than Gaim? Sounds really useful! Lemme give a try.

It is good, but it is Java, and it slows down my PC. And where is the iPhone & iTouch version?, I saw it to be coming soon!

There is no Gaim anymore. Gaim became Pidgin a long time ago.
There are many better than Pidgin like Trillian Astra and Digsby. Pidgin is showing it’s age and refuses to catch up. A new name and new logo as well as a new skin default isn’t enough. Qnext I used to like but thought it’s download size was outrageous for an Instant Messenger at the time. I’ll have to try Qnext again.

{Gaim became Pidgin a long time ago.} - and improved a lot as my linux mate at Y! said. Yup give Qnext a try.
