Publish your wordpress blog posts in advance

One of my friends was leaving the city for a month. So he was worried because his blog wont be updated on a regular basis once he leaves. He told me that he has a group of dedicated readers as well as unique visitors visiting his weblog. And since he wont be able to update his blog, he feared that he will be loosing a percentage of readers. He asked me for a solution. I thought ..

A good way to handle this situation is to make a small post to let the readers/visitors know that the blogger will be out of the city for a month.
A better solution is to Pre Publish your blog posts.

Very helpful trick indeed. I will like to know how we can shiow meta titles in wordpress. I want to do this for my whole weblog. Currently I cant give you an url since its against the norms of our organization.

Are there any drawbacks to pre-publishing?

More specifically, will the ping occur in the same way with a pre-published article?
