The names that are listed there are the people that are signed into yahoo mail. I did it with my sister and she was signed into mail and so was I but not into messenger and it showed that we were both signed into messenger. If you look into your mail addresses they are the same names.

As soon as I saw your comments, I tried the same with two of my friends. But in vein. Is this really possible? Say you log into y! games instead. So I think y! should show you online too! But nops, there are IRC experts (much more efficient than you and me) at y! who have designed this application and I dont think they will do such a terrible mistake.

But yup, your point is true in case of Gmail.

Have you ever heard of BuddyCheck? Its a far more better program than this I purchased recently.

Sorry Peter, I dont think so. I searched for BuddyCheck and downloaded the trialware. At that time I saw 8 users were online(including the ones in the invisible mode) but BuddyCheck showed me 3!

I appreciate your findings but I think its worth using the yahoo homepage than these trialwares

Hello I think U R not 100% correct, plz check all the person who is online by going through ‘next’. This method only tell us how many of ur frd’s become online after sign in the Yahoo mail not messanger.

Try www.xeeber.com. It’s dead on. And it’s not based on your own yahoo ID and your friends list. You can check anyone’s status…. even an invisible friend who may have you on “ignore”

i’ve tried it n i still did’nt undertsand.i see there r 5 friends who r online n i go to www.yahoo.com n i sig in n i’ve signed in n i saw the yahoo messenger there r 1-4 of 10 friends online so wat does that means?

It means in total there are 10 friends online. Out of them the first page shows 1-4 friends. Clicking on the >> link will show more. Out of the 10 friends 5 are visible in your default Yahoo messenger which clearly implies 5 are invisible (~ they pretend to be offline). Plz rectify me Alex, if am wrong.

I Create a tools for checking if some one off or just invisible. It just work for ym below 8 and it almost always work if some one just set invisible to one person and stay available for other.

IMHO;

Please take this as a polite suggestion …

A lot of these links to check status, and I mean A LOT OF THESE LINKS, just do not work. Here’s why:

1. You do not always know what version of Yahoo Messenger the other person is using. How many of your friends just have never update their Y!IM?! Can they share the BUZZ?! Can they share or accept your WebCam?!

2. Do you trust that the developer of a the status checker knows how to check the version the other person is using?

3. How often do these developers update their status checkers when Yahoo updates their IM? Can the developer handle the great number of versions?!

4. I have tested these on my own accounts and on my friends, and these fail. I mean they FAIL!

In short, these are never accurate.

So if you what to base your personal relationships upon whether someone is online or not, hiding or not; get on the phone as ask them. If they don’t return your call, move on.

To all the people giving praises and thanks, have any of you ever wondered how lame and pathetic it is to use software like this? Any person could have any valid numbers of reasons to hide their online status, which is really none of your business. It’s what is considered an invasion of privacy.
Furthermore, submitting user id’s to third party software and websites render them susceptible to spam and they won’t be thankful for that. If you want to give them a very reason to hide from you, or put you on their ignore lists, this is the way to achieve it.

You are not just 100% wrong but 200% wrong there.

Let’s deal with the first 100%. If I go online I am by definition invading the privacy of everyone on my list by seeing whether they are online or not whatever their status may tell me. that said, if I suspect somebody is Invisible that mean that they are effectively lying to a buddy.

However, what makes you 200% wrong is that yes, there is a real invasion of privacy going on but that is by the person in Invisible who is creepily watching your movements while denying you the same. Taking Bart’s approach, it would like saying that if you have a hunch (in the real world) that you are being watched at home and you go outside and find a friend spying on you from his car you are invading their privacy by challenging them.

From my experience the creeps in invisible often come out of it online when they want me but retreat back into it when I want them. I always break that barrier if they are invisible on me because it simply is not buddyship and I usally ask them to delete me. They NEVER have a good excuse… just say you are busy if you can’t chat.

That said, the issue with invisible does not, as far aas I am concerned, rest with Invisible itself, but rests with the failure to create a default whereby those who make others invisible automatically make them invisible to themselves.

You tell me Bart, why would anyone go Invisible on anyone else (rather than deleting them or telling them they are too busy to talk) unlees they are invading their privacy by spying on them?

When I go to the Yahoo!7 homepage via the link, there are no widgets at all. It just shows an area where you can see if new emails come through. The only Yahoo messenger thing on the page is down the left hand side and it takes you to the page to download yahoo. So I can’t figure out where the widgets are. I’m logged into messenger and still no widgets even when I’m signed into Yahoo home page or not.
What am I doing wrong????????
